It can do yes. They fool the ecu into upping the fuel pressure and boost pressure to give you more power.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Not boost pressure, simply fuel pressure.

As Big Sig said though, any tuning box simply due to the way they work (fooling the engine and not working in harmony like a remap) can cause issues, or bring to bear much quicker any fragile/iffy components.

Sorry D, i was under the impression that along with the higher fuel pressure the ecu upped the boost pressure also?

I think if u drive it like u stole it most of the time then yes.

Normal driving and enjoying the extra power every so often should be pretty ok?

Nah, not with a tuning box, they simply can't do that. All they do is simply fool the ECU into upping the fuel pressure. More intelligent boxes like the Spider etc. can vary how much extra fuel they cause to be put in at different revs etc. but it can't alter the boost. That basically requires different software settings in the ECU i.e. a remap.

If I was going to tune the engine I would only go down the remap route Im not keen on tuning box's. Ok it is more dosh but more controlable though the system to the site btw

Don't see the point in having the extra power then. If you can only use it every now and again it's going to waste.

Get a remap mate as tuning boxes are the cause of problems IMO.

A remap is the best way to go but I have been running SRI CDTi 150's over the last two and a half years. I have used the tuning box on car 1 for 30k miles, car 2 for 32k miles and no problems on either. Just picked up replacement car yesterday, another black cdti150, but this will be remapped I think, just to compare. I was running tuning box and a cr eco2 green. Green box slower than my other one. Nowhere near as much pull in 5th and 6th.
Normal driving with the odd blast about won't cause problems with tuning box. Had a tuning box on 2 passat tdi's before these and did approx 100k miles in total without problems. PS I drive like a cnut!! :-)
