Help please! - 3.2V6 petrol leaking oil after oil change

Hi all,

Could I have some advice please? I recently changed the oil and filter on my 3.2 V6. I now notice that it is leaving small patches of oil on the road. It doesn't appear to be coming from the sump drain hole and it doesn't look to be leaking from where the oil filter lid screws onto the housing.

Could it be leaking from behind the oil filter housing? I'm guessing that I must have disturbed a seal somewhere but I'm not sure what leak opportunities there are.

Did you put a drop of oil on the seal before you put the can back on,? Best clean around the filter ares and see if you can spot the leak.
PS. is it posible the oil is "old" and still dripping from when you drained it, perhaps it has run along the sump from when you drained it out.

Yes, I did oil the (new) filter seal. Unfortunately I haven't yet seen the oil leaking, only the oil left on the road.

PS. is it posible the oil is "old" and still dripping from when you drained it, perhaps it has run along the sump from when you drained it out.

I don't think it's coming from the sump because the place where it falls on the road is not close to the sump. Also I changed it around ten days ago, so it should have all cleaned itself up by now.

I suspect it's coming from the back of the filter housing and wicking its way somewhere before it drips off. When I removed the filter I noticed that the filter housing (horizontal cylinder) was twisting a bit. I couldn't easily see where the other end of the housing goes or how it is mounted and sealed at that end.

Is it posible to have crossed threaded it. Have you cleaned all round the filter to then be able to see if it is leaking.

The filter housing cap is definitely not cross threaded.

I will give the area a clean to see if that gives me a clue what's going on. Thanks.
