My 1.8 non VVT uses 5W30 long life oil.

The filter and oil costs about £30 over the VX counter with my discount. :-)

My car just came back from service at VX Dealer and they used Shell Helix Semi on 10/40 (Veccy 1.8 - 55 Plate)
The service books says one thing, the internet says another and I questioned the Service Adviser and he stated that for servicing 10/40 semi synthetic is making a comeback with VX due to the lower cost and no real advantage in everyday driving from more expensive oils.

    Confusing or what

And I'd been using Castrol 0/30 synthetic up to now

I wonder if the stealers will drop the price due to the lower cost of the oil... hmmm i doubt it...

    vx DROP PRICES.....NO WAY....THE LITTLE ******S.

They did however top up the air con for free and do the handbrake mod as part of the service (without charge of course)

I have to say the VX dealer I went to charged £150 for the third year service and did pick up / delivery and washed and cleaned the car.

But then the third service is only effectively an oil change.

Still it keeps the VX warranty going without hassle and they where very pleasent to deal with and very very efficient......I lnow....A VX dealer and the word efficient in the same sentance ????

Good dealers do exist, there are extensive 'good' and 'bad' dealer lists on this forum. Large main dealers tend to have large or even massive lists of customers who bought cars from them and they depend on those people not 'shopping around'......bit like car insurers. Some clearly don't care if they lose your custom, but they would if more people voted with their feet and walked away, like I did and found a good helpful small VX dealer who couldn't be more helpful, does not treat you like a nobody, charges reasonable prices and does a first-class job.

EDIT: As for oil, it has to be 5W/30. Skimping on oil quality is a false economy. A good dealer will gladly use the oil you specify.
