I have just given my 62nd pint of blood. I wonder how many of us members are blood donors.

i give blood twice a year, great thing to do pity more people dont donate
I would give blood, but I smoke (alot) and dont generally have a healthy life style.
but I'm trying to quit now. I need to find out more info on giving blood but.
Me and GSI3.2 give twice to three times a year and I am going to give my 30th pint tomorrow morning.
I would do if I wasn't absolutely sh!t scared of needles... not very butch eh? Last time I had to have blood taken I was an absolute mess for days.
I used to (I got my bronze badge) but the medication I'm on now means I can't give any more.
Mind you, I have to have so many blood tests these days, that I probably give a pint a year anyway!

Mind you they managed to make a botch job of putting the needle in, it went right through the vein, no blood coming out so they pulled the needle back a bit then wobbled it about, then the blood started to come out, whilst they were doing this I was screwing my face up a bit ,as it hurt just a lot, They said you will have a super bruise there soon !, But it has not put me off I will be back again in four months.
They regularly bring their "Blood-Bus" to larger companies in and around London, so I used to manage to go at least once or twice a year. Double bonus was still being "on pay" whilst laid out on the bed!
Actually, in an increasingly busy world, it's quite nice to have the "time out"...you know, half an hour or so of total relaxation - which it is.
I can't remember them ever hurting me with the needle, and always got a nice cuppa and bikky afterwards (plus stickers for the kids at home). Nowadays they tell me my blood's no good and they've consigned me to the blood-doning scrapheap!!!

Yup that'll be a nice bruise Ed...As Duncan's so fond of saying...photos! it's the law!
Been giving blood for about 15 years now - can't think how many pints they've had off me!!That sounds painfully familiar!! Happened to me once. Thankfully not the first time I donated as I think it would have put me off going back!Originally Posted by ed taylor
R-man - my wife is just like you, if not worse!! The mention of having to do a blood test/anything needle related makes her go woosey! She isn't good with needles at all. A doctor was taking some blood once and she warned him that she wasn't good with needles. She was lying on her side (as she doesn't do sitting up with needles after passing out once and bouncing on the floor!) and the doc basically didn't take heed to what she had said and stuck the needle in somewhat abruptly. Her reflex reaction was to kick out with her foot - which by a sheer fluke landed squarely and very firmly right in his knackers!! The nurses were pi**ing themselves with laughter as he wasn't particularly liked and he hobbled off whimpering!!
