    Default Tesco 99 RON

Because non of the local garages have Shell V-Power, I had to fill up with Tesco 99 RON the other day....

Has anyone got any knowledge of this fuel and are there any downsides ?

Dont know anything about it, but with the EDS Remap, I was told not to use anything less than Shell V-Power in the VXR...

    ????

    hi
i used the 99 ron for a while.
but for what differance their was its not worth the extra money.
just buy a cleaner for the engine once a month now.
    lot cheaper and cleans better.

Best fuel out there according to some sources, Thorney motorsport recommend it. http://www.greenergy.com/tesco_99_octane/index.html

Seems a daft thing for them to tell you! All that matters is the octane rating (RON) and the Tesco stuff is higher than the Shell, and as per the link above came out well in those Thorney tests.

I've used the Tesco 99 pretty much all the time I've had the Stage 3, with the odd tank of other SUL, and the engine does seem to like it.

I think thats what they meant to be fair to them.

Well, the reason I asked was due to the additives (or lack of them in supermarket fuel). I wasnt sure if Shell V-Power had superior additives in to protect the engine ? - sounds a bit daft, but I was a bit concerned that it was from Tesco !

Anyways... I drove back from Bristol on the motorway, and it seemed to settle in. But when I came back to the car later that evening, it did seem 'spritely', but I'm not sure if I just imagined it (placeabo effect). I havent given it the full beans, as I was just planning to go back to Shell V-Power once Shell have got their **** together...

A lot of people don't trust supermarket fuel (myself included) but it's not the additives (or lack of) that's the issue. A mate used to be the manager of a supermarket petrol station, and admitted that when a tanker delivery was late and they were running low on fuel, they'd often let the fuel level in the underground tanks go lower than they're supposed to, resulting in some of the crap that sits in the bottom of the tanks being pumped into cars (same principle as to why you shouldn't let your car run dry). I used to have a Rover 620 petrol turbo which hated supermarket fuel - it'd idle much higher when running on it. Ideally you should fill up at the places that close off their forecourt when their tanker delivery is late, instead of emptying the underground tanks too much.

I won't use anything other than the Tesco 99 ron stuff in my cars and on the odd occasions I have had to use anything else (trip to the wilds of scotland or similar) there has been a noticeable difference in response from the engine, especially on my 2.0T

Great fuel in my experience and it would take a fair bit to persuade me otherwise.

Filtration is the key, and every car has a pick up filter at least in the tank.

I use Asda std unleaded, and have done for many years. Car not missed a beat for nearly 75 K i've had it.

Fuel dispensary is irrelavent. The fuel complies to the same spec (BS7070) and does have detergents in it anyway.

BS7070 didn't stop Tesco and Asda fuel being contaminated by silicone last year.... adequate testing would have been a nice touch.
