    Default 2.2 petrol Vs 1.9 cdti 150

Me and a friend have been talking about the 2 above mensioned engines and are wondering what is the quickest 0-60 and what is the quickest top end speed. can anyone help us resolve our debate. i own a 2.2 petrol but he is temped buy the 19cdti 150. obviously we know the cdti is more economical etc but tbh my 2.2 easily does 35mpg at 80mph which i think is good for a large car.
So what is the quickest? (don`t just say the 2.2/1.9 is the quickest cos its what you have!!!)

they are very closely matched..the 150 will have the edge because it's got a turbo, but it has a narrower powerband.. the 2.2 loves to rev to the redline, but the CDTi is all done by 4,000...

he'll get better MPG out of the CDTi than the 2.2 but the 2.2 is by far the more reliable engine...

top end, they are both the same...

Where the CDTI is much quicker than the petrol is in the mid-range acceleration on the move.
30-70 is where the diesels are particularly good, as the petrol turbos are, too.

Who really cares about 0-60 or top speed? They are both pretty much meaningless numbers.

Most meaningful are the mid acceration times, ie 30-70 etc. These give you an idea of the driveability of the car, and are much better for determining how easy the car will be to drive.
