    Default Protaras,Cyprus

Off on holiday in August and wanted to know if anyone can give us some pointers or recommendations,we are going to Cyprus,Protaras to be exact and staying at the Vangelis Aparthotel,as usual the brochure doesn't give much away but looks and sounds just what we were after so booked it,can't wait now as its been 12 months waiting for it to come around and haven't had a holiday for over 12 months.......

    Any suggestions welcome......

You will love the place,we spent a lot of time walking, eating and drinking. People are ace so enjoy. Do not go on the organised trips that the reps do, sort them out yourself and will save you a a packet. Been back 3 times so it must be good. Lots of bays to visit and my highlight is diving off the top of one of the local cruise boats in one of the bays. Maybe hire a open top jeep as its a good way to get around so take all your divers licesnse parts

    Glenboy

Been to Protaras and surrounding area for the past 8years. we mostly stay in Pernera area which is smaller and quieter.

Go to the larger car hire companies, read small print as not all you think is covered, even on 4x4.You will need both parts and passport at some places

Eating places on Protaras strip to many to choose from, all depends on taste.

Must see,if you got kids is Water Park at Aiya Napa, brill day out get there early by public bus don't go on Reps bus, but buy a family pass from rep as you can go straight through.

Boat trips are good for diving, snorkling and tanning some offer BBQ etc in price (take plenty F30+ cream as you burn better than the BBQ on the Boats)

Ayia Napa is a must for the experience but leave before midnight if you got kids it gets manic ,but a good laugh.

Avoid scooters, hiring or on the roads they dont give a 5hit and they are poorly maintained.

The weather you cannot fault, slapp plenty of f30,40 or 50 on,last year we were there in Pernera and the temp hit 50degC 11 out of 14 days .

We really like the island and the people,as you can tell.

This year they joined the Euro so i don't know what prices will be like.

You are lucky, we are not going this year as we have spent money in the house and i have the dep on the new Vec to find

    Never mind

    Enjoy

    Colin

I haven't been to that end of the island for years, but I don't know anyone who hasn't loved it.
One unexpected fact -they grow excellent spuds in that area (the "red soil district") -so the chips and baked spuds are fantastic!

Not been to that part of the island, we stayed over towards the West, but that applies, IMO, to any holiday I've done. Always been cheaper to get the local transport - as well as being part of the experience, you can do exactly what you want to do to your own timetable and not be herded around according to theirs. You spend more time at the place you went to visit as from what I've heard of others' experiences of the organsied trips you end up stopping off at places on the way there/back that you don't want to!

thats why i alway do all my own bookings and travel.... we HATE being herder around, so we travel independantly and get to see far more ( and stay in nicer places) than others... it's just a question of having some trust in yourself and doing your own thing..

    hirecars are a must..
