Default Fault code 55 (Faulty ECU?). what to do?

    Hi,
my car is a vectra 1998 2.5 v6 CD. just few weeks ago the engine warning light started to go on. i did the paperclip test and found the fault code is 55. if i've interpreted the fault code correctly then it's a faulty ECU. can anyone pls tell me where to go to fix this? as far as i know it's a dealer job. but i really dont wanna go to any dealer as they gonna rip me off. pls help...

    thanks a lot.

    the fault code is 55
    er, that's a Vectra B

    Presumably you are receiving
    *****_*****
    *****_*****
    *****_*****
    and that only

If so, then you do indeed need a new ECU
Sadly, that is a dealer only job and you are looking at near on £1000 including parts and labour

    Default

The simtronic ECU is about £650, it is located behind the glovebox
It then needs fitting and reprogramming
The main problem is not the amount of labour involved, removing the glovebox and faulty ECU, refitting the replacement ECU and glovebox, is only about 2 hours, but the car then has to sit in a bay connected on TECH 2 for about 4 hours
