Can any 2.0T owner(s) do me a favour?

Following on - yet again!

- from this thread and the point about the turbo glowing, I wonder if anyone could, at some point, do a little 'experiment' for me?

I'm not worried about my turbo glowing orange, that's normal as they get hot - it's just under what circumstances it gets hot enough to glow orange.

I drove back home tonight - 4/5 mile drive in 30/40 limits, not booting it and not remapped so running the standard boost pressure. When I got back, out of curiosity, I popped the bonnet to look at the turbo and it was distinctly orange - although nothing like it was the other night or after an extended run.

Next time any of you guys are out, either 2.0T owners running no remap or BSR owners running unmapped, and you do a similar journey - 5 odd miles in 30/40 limits driving normally, not booting it - could you have peek at your turbos and tell me if they are orange. Obviously this is easier to see at night!

Of course, if any of you feel so inclined to nip out this evening for a spin, i won't stop you!!

Just got back in ...

Took it for a spin around town ... 50/70km/h roads and normal driving ...

Opened the bonnet ... and ... hello, turbo ... where are you ??
No sign of the turbo in the dark ... hmm ...

Took it for another spin ... this time flooring it from lower speeds ...
A short one on the highway too ...

Some time later and a few studds later ... opened the bonnet again ...
Hey! ... Now i can see my little friend under the bonnet .... this time orange ....

Interesting your result on the first drive - mine was definitely glowing after a similar drive. I'll take mine for another spin tomorrow - can't be ar**d now as it's away in the garage!

would this glowing be noticeable in daylight?

You'd have to stick your head closer to the turbo, but you should be able to see it as long as you're in some sort of shade - otherwise it will be difficult to see.
