    Default Z20NET (2.0 Turbo ) Petrol - Burning Oil

    Hi,

Many thanks to Duncan re my last post re turbo part no.
My issue is that it looks like issue not the Turbo(had hoses off, no sign of any excess oil)

Question: Has anyone had any experience of valve/oil seal or the rings going on these engines ??

Am trying to avoid having head off as long as possible, but the smoke is getting bad!

Any comments would be appreciated, Not having a good day, 2new tyres this morning and the tyre fitter snapped one of the wheel bolts, so sitting in there workshop till monday!

So someone please make my day!

is the smoke when the engine is under power ( ie when you rev it) .. or is it when you first start it, or is it on overrun... when is it worse?..

worst when cold, and at idle. There doesnt seem to by any pattern, first thing in morning smoky, but then could be smoky at juctions, but when you lift off and boot it whilst driving no smoke.

So no sure if oil seald or rings!, any one got an other suggestions as to checking turbo?, as mentioned we had the hoses off it there is no sign of oil in the air feeds??

if you remove the hose from the inlet manifold and run your finger around the inside of the hose and see how much if any oil is in the pipe .note a little bit of oil is normal..but loads and loads might point to a problem .. i would say in my opinion that it is your valve stem oil seals that are at fault this is a comon problem with the z22se enigne wich is from the same family as the z20net there are tools out there that allow you to replace the stem oil seals without removeing the head i have only seen this done a few time but it does seem to work fine.....

i agree with benny... if it was the turbo it would smoke heavily when you boot it, as would it if it was rings... what you say leans to the stem seals and oil being drawn down them. the smoke first thing could well be from oil running down the stem seals and sitting in the cylinders overnight..

wherever it's coming from ( and it does point to the stem seals) it does need sorting ASAP to save the catalyser from oil damage...

    Default Further Question

Cheers guys, leaning towards the oil seals as well. Can anyone advise where best place to get the tool to replace seals in situ, guess is a glorified valve spring compressor of some sort. Any info would be very welcome
