I've used Audio out and run this to speakers in the rear but the sound is VERY low.
The volume of the player is up to it's max but still the sounds Very low.

Purely a guess here but is the audio out at pre-amp levels? I'd have thought that needs to go to an aux-in on the head unit rather than direct to the speakers. That way it gets amplified by the receiving unit and you control volume through the head unit.

You have lost me on the pre-amp levels. Sorry.

What i've got is a DVD player "seperate unit" and a roof screen.
The screen has no speakers in it so i need to install them. I bought 2 bog standard speakers and i will fit them behind the daughter headrest.
I don't want to mess with the stereo at all.

I connected the yellow video to the screen and the audio red and white i've wired to the speakers direct.
Like i say it work's but the sound is Very low. "Unable" to hear it even with the speakers behind the headrest.

Shan, are the red/white leads from the DVD player just bare wires, or have they got RCA plugs on?

I think i know what you have done. The dvd player wont have an amp so you need to power the audio. I will try to make this easy..... The red & white audio leads need to be plugged into a head unit with an audio in... that will power the sound through the car speakers, If say you bought a head unit without an audio in BUT it had a cd auto changer plug you can get a lead that plugs into the autochanger socket on the head unit then plug the red/white audio leads into that from the dvd & then you have sound. I have done it this way in the past..... Hope this makes sense to you mate

you could just buy a small cheapish amp and use that, then wire it from the dvd to the speakers.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
