oil level or oil pressure?.. i.e. the red oilcan on the dash, or the one in the tacho display??

if it's level, then thats easily sorted.. if it's pressure then it leads to a few other questions..

    1: who serviced it?
2: have they 'flushed' it?.. always a dodgy thing to do to engines that aren't used to it..
3: what grade of oil did they refill it with?
4: have they installed the filter correctly and changed the lower oil seal o rings when they did it?

at best, it may just need another service..to change what has already been done.. at worst it may just be the pressure sensor playing up ( the diaphragms in them fail) or it may be something more sinister ( if it's been flushed it could be carbon holding the oil pump bypass valve open)..

thanxs for reply was serviced at local garage and did use a flush. however all previous servicing was done by vx and the light was still flashing. i have only had the car for two weeks and never seen the oil pressure light flash on any prevoius cars i have had. the car only 70000 on the clock and fsh so i think it cannot be too serious. the light flashes intermittent and only when the clutch is depressed at junctions and slowing down.

if it's the pressure light, it could be wiring, but i'd start with a new sender unit ( just screws in) as they do split the diaprahgm. it it still illuminates then it does point to an oil pressure problem. either oil bypassing the filter or the releif valve in the oil pump sticking
