My 3.2 is really noisy on cold starts?
It sounds really rough - not sure if its a blowing sound or a metallic type sound.
Only last until its warm then it quietens down.
Someone even asked me if it was a diesel the other day

what oil are you running?.. it could just be thin or old oil causing the hyrdaulic followers to 'jack' and rattle
5w 30 fully synthetic - just changed and changed every 10k.
Wondering if its either the egr valve or maybe the manifold causing the problem?
it could be either a blowing exhaust manifold gasket, or a cracked manifold..both not small jobs on the rear bank.. and the manifolds are dear as they have the precats in them..
the EGR should be open for no more than about 1 minute..if it's much longer than that then you can discount it..
is it a rattle or a puffing blow?.. does it get louder if you put your head by the camcovers?
Its not a "puffing blow" - Its hard to describe really.
It's quite loud, quite a harsh sound like no exhaust really?
Then after bout 2 mins when warm is Ok again?
Iam sure it should be quieter than this? yours seemed silent at PVS?
mine is dead quiet from startup..
i suspect that you either have a broken link pipe ( common on B's) as a cracked manifold or blowing gasket would 'chuff' all the time..
Its def. not blowing when warm.
Eveb if I go out now, 2 hours after driving its quiet.
Noise is just after stood all day or night.
Broken link pipe? Is this the EGR pipe?
Any more advice and how to find the noise?
Thanks
My car does the exact same thing. Has done since I bought it 8 months ago. Took it to a garage and they just shrugged it off. Have read a couple of threads on here about the same thing in the past but people have just said that garages had told them it takes a while for the oil to warm up.
Oddly enough I had the oil changed on Saturday and when I came to get in it this afternoon it didn't rattle. Can't comment on first thing this morning though as I was half asleep! Assume it will do it in the morning however!
edit: just tried it. Been stood for 3.5 hours and sounds fine but will see what its like in the morning.
My car has done 102,000 miles - but I still expect a V6 to be quiet all the time.
Everything is so complicated with these cars! nothing is an easy fix
Any other V6 owners out there have this problem?
Mines only done 53k so i dont think its a mileage thing.
