Yep, but don't forget that was due to the bad design of the oil spray jets on the earlier ones and them getting clogged up, therefore starving the chain of oil.

Well it also all depends on how well, or how badly! lol, the car has been serviced. On one that has been well looked after and serviced with interim oil changes etc., I, as a punt, wouldn't think you'd need to even think about replacing chains until 100,000+.

Since I got mine at 69k serviced regularly. Looked after very well and oil changes planned every 10k with VX 5w-30, first one was done at 73k and it's due one ATM. I would say it's well looked after and has no funny noises what so ever.

The old 2.2 chains 'throwing for fun' was an oil starvation problem which had been resolved on the 2.2 non-direct Vectra before the Vectra 2.0T was released. Seem to remember a figure of either 80K or 100K miles as the point at which the chain COULD normally need replacing. As Duncan says the chain should last the life of the engine as long as it remains properly lubricated. Also you will hear an audible rattle telling you it's time to change. Unlike a belt, the chain is not a 'change it just in case it breaks at a set time/mileage interval' type of consumable item.

Agreed it is not unheard of for the timing chain to go prematurely.....mine was replaced under warranty by the dealer at under 30K miles, and I didn't even know there was a problem.

I bought the full kit IE tensioner, chain, followers etc after replacing the tensioner ..was told its a common fault with that type of engine and if you don't need them now you will in the future ..its all new to me but the noise i am getting is very distinct metallic sound not a belt vibrating .when garage replaced tensioner there was a great difference but still a chattering there

I had a vec b sri 150, had the chain done at around 140,000 miles if i remember correct & that was only because it started to make a slight noise. As said as long as you service regulary don't worry you will know when it needs doing. . The jets on the earlier 2.2's were to small so bigger ones were fitted iirc.
