    Default 2.0T Cambelt Replacement Schedule

Hi, anyone know how frequently the timing belt needs to be changed on an '04 2.0T Signum - don't suppose it's chain-driven by any chance...?

    I'm 100% sure it's a chain!

The chain doesn't have a servicing schedule - it should last the life of the engine as long as you give it regular oil changes with quality oil.

Exactly what I was hoping to hear! lol. I'm changing from an Omega 2.5 V6 and after changing the belt on that once I don't mind never seeing a cambelt ever again. With a longitudinally-mounted engine, everything is a ****** to access on the V6 Omegas, except the cambelt which is in front of the engine instead of the side, so it's supposed to be a (relatively) easy job. Easy my a$$....lol !

How much is that costing? Would be interested in the pricing of the chain kit alone as I'd rather change mine just for the sake of knowing.

First I've heard of that problem in the 2.0T. Are you sure it's the timing chain that has an issue? Was it definitely the timing chain tensioners you had changed?, it wasn't maybe the tensioner on the multi-v belt you had done, the belt that you can see in the engine bay that wraps around the alternator, water pum and AC compressor? - as that is a common problem on the 2.0T.

You certainly shouldn't be needing new timing chains or tensioners at 20K!

Mark, you really don't need to be changing these until you've put some serious mileage on the car. They don't have a servicing schedule at all and so shouldn't need replaced at all, certainly not until you've clocked up a hefty mileage - especially if you've been having regular oil changes.

Just one of those things thats in the back of my mind Duncan especially with the old 2.2 throwing chains for fun. They obviously learnt a lot and I know it will probably be OK, but just one of those things thats always on my mind.

When you say hefty mileage, how much are we talking IYO?
