    Default Slipping Clutch

    Hi all

My clutch is starting to slip when I put it under pressure. The bite is at the top. done 46K

Petrol, 1.8, 52 plate, club, saloon, One of the first vec-c, full wirring never got round to having it all switch on!

Got a cash flow problem at the mo, No cash want flow if you know what I mean, so I need to extend the life abit to raise the cash to have it done, is there any adjustment under the car? and how difficult is it to DIY. I have changed a few clutches in the past be it more than a few years ago.

the bad news is there is no adjustment.. once it's slipping it's time to get it changed..

the other bad news is, that unless you can get the box off and into the subframe void enough, it's a subframe off job, as well as driveshafts out of the hubs job.. it's a biggy to do..

    Thanks Gsi3.2

Or should I say No thanks Gsi32.2. No pit therefor no DIY Job. Why couldn't it be Like my old viva (f plate SL90 delux with twin down drafts 1159 (gold rebore) with a magnum gear box) 1.5 hrs tops and thats on ramps lol. Mind you I was about 20 and that was 30 years ago. And I presume the subframe has to be realigned with a special tool.

Any idea of the sort of price I should be paying

    sitting down?...

Duncan has just has his quoted at a VX dealer, and i don't think he'll object to me telling you it was £800..

if it's an independant garage then you will prob get it down to around £380-£400... pricey, but it is a big job to do....

Do you think a normal run of the mill garage will be capable or a clutch centre, A1 Clutches are not too far away from me, i'll phone them tomorrow and get a quote

oh, they'll be able to do it.. it's far from a maindealer only job...

only word of warning...check their work before paying as fastfit clutch places don't tend to have the best reputations for care with your car....

Had the clutch done at A1 clutches, factory Road, Tipton, West midlands. £185 inc vat. Took them 2 hours. 2 year Guarrentee as long as they check it after 500, 3000, 6000 and 12000 miles.

    Not too bad me thinks

Just need to service it now, although I did wheel spin it a few times on the way home

My car was one of the first, Everything is wired ready by the factory Most of the extras are also fitted just not switched on! or they need a switch fitting. Never been interested enough to see it done. To get the same level today I would have to go for top of the range. It is wired for sat nav but with the smaller screan fitted.
