    Default Help! Running like a dog!

    Hi all,

    Sorry if this is in wrong section (with it not being a veccy)

    My wifes zaffy 1.6 16v (2002) has something going very wrong.

    She went out today and it was running lumpy and flashed the enigine management on briefly a few times but then off again.

    When I took it out tonight it is running terribly. It really chugs to get through the low revs to higher revs and when your driving it it is rough as anything and has no power. No warning lights on at present.

    Before i go throwing fistfuls of cash at the dealer does anyone have anythoughts on what this may be.

    I don't know what a misfire sounds like, but i imagine it might sound like this (very chuggy in low revs and as if it's missing 'a beat' going through the rev range).

    It also smells very rich and has done very badly on fuel for the last 50 miles.

    My thoughts are possible plug change or MAF (and crossing my fingers it's that simple)

    Any other ideas??

    Could possibly the coil/ignition pack ? my vectra wasn't quite as bad as what you describe when it failed but very similar.

    IF it's that, it was about £100 from LMF for my 1.8 but I have seen them on ebay for nearer £60 for the 1.6 Astra's etc

    ahh, sounds a bit better then.

    Do you reckon i should start with the plugs and take it from there??

    well, one coil pack later she's running like a dream again (we figured she still had 2 weeks of warranty so of she went and now she's back, fighting fit - for how long..... who knows!!!!!!)

    glad you got it sorted fella

    coil packs are common on renaults as they burn out and cost about £40 each

    IIRC you can change them individually on the Renault's but on the VX it's one unit. Must make it difficult to know which one to change on the Renault unless there is a trick to testing them
