1.8 140vvt or 1.9cdti 150

Hi all i`m looking to change my current veccy which is a 1.8sri facelft with only 120bhp.Having looked through the forums which have been very handy i still can`t decide. I tow a caravan and thus i`m temted to go for the diesel but on the other hand is the 140 petrol just as good???.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't go for the diesel on economy alone.... if you do few miles the price of fuel has all but robbed the benefit of the economy away..

the CDTi will tow better, but they are know for having more than a few 'issues' that the 1.8's simply don't have..

I'd not want to tow a big 'van' with the 1.8.. it's a bit underpowered for that.. have you not considered the 2.2 Direct?.. better towing economy than the 1800 with more power, but less of the issues than the CDTi..

You need to drive both.

The CDTi will be the better tow car but for the your money you would get an older/higher mileage model than the vvt.

yep, cdti's do hold their value better.. and the petrols are dead cheap, so you could have the power of the 2.2 Direct petrol nearly brand new, for the price of a 18 month old CDTi...

Also if the Signum would suit your requirements, it's got a very good name for itself as a tow-car due partly to the short rear overhang it's got.

Certainly worth a look at if it suited your requirements for a car.
