The light is indicating there is a problem with the electric power steering. Needs plugging into a code reader to find out why.

As to whether your car is safe to drive, if the PAS fails, the steering will become heavy all of a sudden - which could catch you unawares depending on whatever it is you're doing at the time.

Sounds like it might need a touch of oil in it but be aware there are two types of oil one is standard "red" power steering oil the other is a mineral "green" oil make sure you use the right one !!!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

its electrohydraulic. It does need oil. I think its at the back somewhere in a small bottle with a black top.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Being an 02 plate, the fluid container is likely to be down behind the engine on the rack, it's a white bottle with a black cap. Similar size to a 1 litre oil top up bottle.

You'll need a funnel with a long pipe on it, there is a dip stick on the container's cap. You can get the funnel and pipe from Halfords for a few quid.
