Actually the speedo will slightly under-read.

Since changing mine, my speedo now under-reads by approx 4 mph, comparing readings with the sat nav readout.

See the sticky post over in Handling and braking for the tyre size calculator.

Yes I noticed this a few days ago

My local road has a speed radar, 30mph in one direction and 40mph in the other
When I was on the 215/50R17 tyres last week...
At an indicated 30mph the radar showed 29mph
At an indicated 40mph the radar showed 39mph
    Yesterday with the 225/45R15 tyres...
At an indicated 30mph the radar showed 27mph
At an indicated 40mph the radar showed 36mph

I suspect the tyres should actually be 235/45R17

That will be fine as the height of the wheels and tyres hasnt changed. Most cars under read as standard as manufactures are allowed to have up to an 8% deficiency.

The Vehicle Construction Act actually allows for 10% on cars
I've already used this to help a few people successfully defend charges of speeding at 31 or 32mph in a 30mph zone

Silly question I know, but if you have '225's on the rear and '215's on the front (driving wheels) will the speedo reading be the same as when you have '215's all round? Or putting it another way, is the speedo reading only affected by a change in the size of the 'driving' wheels?

Please forgive any ignorance on my part as I am a technical numpty.
