    Default 2.2dti or 2.2direct petrol

hi guys at the mo i have a 54reg 2.2 direct sri vectra but i'm seriously getting the 2.2dti due to tax and running costs. just wanted to know which engine is more reliable as i have only had the current vec for 6 months.also what are the common faults of the 2.2dti.
    once again thank you guys

I had a 2.2 dti for 3 years with no issues. Rubbing noise from steering was the only issue, wd40 only solved it for a day or 2. Silicone lubricant sorted it once and for all. Otherwise faultless. A lot less go than a cdti or 2.2 petrol, hard to tune (expensive) and get about 145 bhp if you use tunit (£500). Economical though. 2.2 petrols are a popular choice, whats the tax like on them ??

boost sensor failure ( limp home mode)
split boost hoses ( as above)
injector seals fail, leak off pipes perish, rubber fragile fuel pump, turbo seals fail...

of the two, if I was buying, i'd stick with the Direct...all that is known for is the high pressure pump and swirl valves failing...

with the price of petrol and diesel, and the rate of faiulure of the two engines, i'd not be swapping..

After my experience with the Dti I wouldn't go near one ever again. Stick with the petrol.

Had my vec for 3 years now. Had a few problems bottom pulley broke off common problem. Rear shocks failed common problem. Other than that very very happy with it. Exremely economical 60 mpg on motorway low 50 mpg A roads.
Very power ful good for my caravan. I would recommend them to anyone.

My 2.2 DTi Auto got from Scotland to PVS and back on a full tank which i thought was very good

The pulley broke a few months ago but other than that i've had no other major problems. The Limp Home Mode happens occasionally though.......

My previous Veccy C was a 2.2 direct, and tbh i think the DTi runs much smoother

Go for the petrol 2.2 direct - the gas & diesel price now negates the capital expense of the diesel unless you are doing about 110 miles a day every day!!
But each to his own. - I had diesels for donkeys years and now I am back in a petrol the differance is wonderful

like i say i already have a 2.2direct petrol but with tax on the 2.2dti being cheaper i just thought it might be worth a look but the 2.2dti seems a bit to much hassel for me.
