being on the cautious side me.... i change then as soon as they show good wear, on previous threads there has been motors thay have lasted 90k i think before changing discs... so its depends on your driving style...LOL
Ask a freindly local mechanic, who will give you a honest answer... but use good disc when replaced, you cant go wrong.

i look for a lip of a few mm on the outer rim of the disc (where the pad doesnt rub) when i feel a lip if a few mm i change them out for me its usually around 40-60k, on my diesels, but less often on my old petrols... i assume that the diesels brake harder. but i was taught to drive on brakes not gear box, that might explain it.

I haven't got to that stage on my vectra yet but generally when they wear a lip will form at the edge (where it's not worn away). You need to check for unevenness and uneven wear - there will also be a minimum thickness. Uneven discs can be skimmed but its usually just as cheap to get new ones.

I assume the brake wear sensors - for the pads - are embedded in the pads and will come with the new pads.

Just don't goto Kwikifit, they offer a free brake check, but told me once they had them off they prob could not put them back as they fall apart apparently then came a quote that only worked out about a tenner cheaper than Evans Halshaw, go figure.

You can normally get two sets of front pads to one set of front discs
Once the second set of front pads has been fitted examine them once a week
Eventually you will see a grove that the pad is sitting into in the disc
If the edge of this grove starts to break up then it is time to replace the discs

I would expect you could get between 30K and 40K miles out of a set of front pads and between 60K and 70K miles out of a set if front discs

exept if you're me and change them both every time..

brakes save lives.. and with the prices of the VX disc and pad kits it's just plain silly not to change them both at the same time..

brake pad sensor wires are £10, and just clip into the leading edge of the inner pad on the nearside caliper..

I just changed my first sets at 98k - both front discs & pads, but rear pads only. I figured the rear discs looked ok for another 50k or so. These are the first set as I've had the car since 9k/8mths old.
