Default whining sound from rear at 70mph??

Have noticed over the last few weeks that there is a definite whining, sort of throbbing sound from back of car at 65-70 mph. It is definitely getting worse. When i either slow down or accelarate past this speed it goes. Could this be wheel bearings?? If it is something like that would changing to 225/45/17 have any bearing on things because I changed all 4 in December.

IMHO wheel bearings would cause a noise at most speeds, not just 65-70 .... the faster you go on dodgy bearings the louder the noise gets. Plus bearings give off a grumbling/rumbling noise, not a whine.

I have a grumbling sound too... Mentioned it at my last service and the stealers changed a front bearing but no change... Left it a while then put it back in... they changed the two front springs. Started to think "maybe it's tyre wear? as the fronts had some excessive wear on the inside edges.... Changed the two front tyres (Asked the bloke who changed the tyres if tracking was out and he said it was highly unlikely as the overall tread although worn was normal....Still noisy a bit mostly while decelerating and around 30 mph... Gonna take it back in again as it's starting to worry me a bit.

My car's noisy from the rear ... more so at higher speeds. I suspect it's excessive tyre noise from the Bridgestone Potenza RE040's ... I have some 'undulated' wear on the inside of the rear tyres ... my uncle (mechanic) said he's seen it a few times before but has no idea what causes it ... it's a pattern that sort of looks like ___-----___----___---- around the tyre. I've just got used to it now but I do get reminded as to just how noisy it is when I've been in other Vectras that are super quiet.

Some days it's worse than others. Since starting this thread I've paid more attention to the sound. It's difficult to describe but it's like a throbbing/warbling sound. Checked my tyres for uneven wear and all ok. Changed the tyres in December for 225/45/17 Vredesteins. It maybe is just tyre noise. Anyway getting 4 wheel laser alignment done soon as driving to france at start of August so we'll see
