Default Brake lights on full time!

Hey everyone, dont know if anyone has experienced anything as weird as this before on their veccy . The brake lights on my 2.0 Dti 2004 light up when I start the car, and they stay on, the left, right and the centre one! , hav not moved the car out of the drive now for a week as its a bit risky takin it out.
Any one with a bit of electrical knowledge have an idea what could be causing this. Getting a light bulb with a ! through in the display aswell.

Yep it's odds on that your brake light switch is stuck in the on position...here's the good news ..cheap and easy fix

The stop light switch is located on the pedal bracket in the drivers footwell..behind the facsia

Brake lights work without the ignition being on though, so if it was the pedal switch then they'd be on all the time and not just with the ignition.

Have you recently changed any bulbs in the rear clusters?

More than likely one of the bulbs, had a similar issue with one of my Vectra-B's, turned out that it needed a specific bulb! Take them all out and replace one by one...should hopefully eliminate the dodgy one! HTH.

The bulbs in the rear clusters should all be single filament 21w/12 volts.

    Bulbs from top to bottom:
    Turn signal light
    Tail light / brake light
    Tail light
Fog tail light (works on drivers side only - this is normal for the UK)
    Reversing light

For the tail light a reduced voltage is supplied to the bulb (to make it dimmer) and when it becomes a brake light the voltage is increased to make it brighter.

Also, if the upper tail/brake light bulb fails, then the lower tail light takes over as a tail/brake light.

Big Dave perhaps you can help? I have just checked my bulbs which are in the same order you have listed above, ALL bulbs work fine. Both clusters are in full working order but this si the problem. On Vectra C there should be 2x tail lights on both sides, top & bottom but on mine only the bottom ones work (on both sides). When braking the top ones (brake lights) work normally but dont know why only the bottom tails work. Like I said all bulbs & clusters are working A1. Would really like both tails (2 on each side) to work but cant seem to get them to. Any ideas? All suggestions welcome. HELP BEFORE I GO MAD LOL !!!!!

thanks to all that replied, internet has been on the blink for the past few days, gna check the bulbs as above and if not will check the switch on the pedal. I hope its just a mix up with the bulbs.
    Will update when av checked.
    Cheers
