    confused What needs changing...

Hi all, my Signum 2.0T Design, has reached 60000 miles now, so I was wondering, what should i think about having replaced or done to keep her healthy and running? I've read threads about water pumps, cam-belts, timing chains... so any help would be great.

    How old is the car?
How many services has it had, when, and at what intervals?

    60K miles...
Probably doesn't need a cambelt change, if it was done at 40K miles
However, you might want to consider one at the next service interval
Depending on how and where you get it serviced, perform a check on the waterpump, although some people change it along with the cambelt irrespective

Apart from that, keep to the service schedule
Other things you may also want to change :
upgrade from semi-synthetic to fully-synthetic oil as part of the oil and oil filter changes
increase the frequency of oil and oil filter changes
increase other service item renewal frequencies
increase MoT inspections to 6 monthly

However, servicing is more about identifying components that have failed or are close to failure
If you are using the car every day, then you as the owner and driver are more likely to spot them, than a VX mechanic!

The only change I make when the car goes out of warranty is to increase the frequency of services, usually cutting it in half, so for may car that will be 1 year and 15K miles
I already have MoT carried out on my car every 6 months, usually within 4 weeks of a service

Thought the 2.0T was a chain not a belt, so won't need changing.

The 2.0T doesn't have a cambelt, it has a timing chain which doesn't have a replacement schedule.

n-hudson - all you have to do is make sure the car gets serviced regularly. I personally do it to schedule with oil/filter changes every six months/10,000 miles. Use the 5W/30 fully synth oil. Being a turbo engine the oil needs to be in tip-top condition, so changing it often will only do good.

As for things like water pumps, well basically replace only if it goes wrong. With there being no cambelt to change, it's not something that you would/could do at the same time - only if it ever goes wrong.
