    Default Company Car Tracker.........

Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody had a tracker fitted to there company car, and how they felt about it?particularly the new kind where there is a button on the inside of the car that the driver activates while they are on business use and deactivate's whilst using the car personally, therefor the company can calculate the amount of business and personal mileage. The days when a company car was a perk are long gone............Can i switch this thing off............

I would refuse to have one fitted on a company car. It is nothing more than a way for a company to check up on you.

If the company trusts's the employee then there is not need for it.

Spill your coffee on it, then sue Mcdonalds for making it too hot. That should kill two birds with one stone. No tracker and a nice wee claim.

The problem with all trackers, if it is not the switchable type as described by mickontherun, is many people put a switch on the live feed so it can't be tracked, but this sends out a fault signal.

There is another way, a friend has one on his van, and has put a switch on the earth, when switched, the tracker system still see's is at the same location no matter where you go. It works well!!

    Debate time.....

Our company is currently in the process of fitting tracking systems to the engineers vehicles.

There are many arguements for an against the trackers. After many questions from the engineers, this is how we summed it up:

If you complete an honest days work and do not regularly exceed the speed limit - you have nothing to worry about.

Unfortunatley in any company - you have individuals who abuse personal mileage and actual hours worked etc. Thanks to this - you have to create a fair rule accross the board.

At least our Company was open and honest about fitting the systems - some companies fit them when vehicles are in for works and dont even tell the employees.

If the Company want to fit one to my personal car - I wouldnt have a problem - they would see all the days that I leave home at 6am and get home at 9pm - for a set salary!
