Eek Stuck sump plug - oil extractor question

    Hi guys.

I took my car for a service at Kwik-Fit (never again) and they have stated that they could not get the sump plug off. They then showed me the bent nut that now remains in the sump.

Rather than them drilling the plug out, and risking damaging the sump and surrounding components I was going to buy an oil extractor (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/se...tractor/page/1). Some cars seem to have restrictions in the sump when trying to stick a tube down the dipstick pipe, is there anything in the Vectra C (1.9 cdti) that would prevent the sucky pipe reaching the bottom of the sump?

Also, is the oil filter on top of the engine like in Duncans post? (http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=15115)

    Thanks you brainy bunch!

Can you not just go the Old fashioned route, A bit brutal, But normally works A Hammer & a Chisel

Making sure you have a new one to replace of course !!!

as you said You can buy an oil drainer that goes into the dipstick and vacuum pumps the oil out, A lot of fleet mobile mechanics use them now, i see one being used used recently when my company astra was serviced, i think it was made by sealey and cost around £40 to £50 mark. I'd go with that rather than risk stripping the thread on the sump plig

Just get a one of them self adjusting/tightening spanners, the more pressure you put on the tighter it gets. They will even undo a completely round nut.

I once had a similar problem with a nut I needed to remove - I ended up using a dremmel and about 3 small grinding stones to grind 2 large flats on the thing and then a big adjustable spanner finally got the thing off. Took flippin ages but got there in the end!

    confused

Thanks guys. The only things putting me off the oil extractor are the baffles in the sump which may prevent the pipe reaching the bottom, and the fact the oil filter is on the bottom of the engine.

If the filter was on top, then I wouldnt have to get under the car. As I will need to get under to change the filter I may as well use the sump plug to drain.

Where would be the cheapest/best place to get one of them spanner wotsits from?

I think the kwikfit guys are worried about the two different metals being bonded together. I assume the sump plug is a different metal to the sump itself.

Yeah I think they will probably use one of them. I think they are scared of causing damage to the sump if the plug is bonded/cross threaded etc.

I'll just let them sort it out I think. Bet I need to pay for a new sump!
