    Question Catch tank pipework question

    Hi guys,

I am considering buying a catch tank. My question is what is the longest the pipe should be from the rocker cover to the catch tank itself.

I only ask as the ideal thing to do would be to fit a cone filter and use the space left for the catch tank.

However, I don't really want a cone filter (warm air and everything) so need to locate it elsewhere.

    Thanks

You could always fit an enclosed cone filter i.e. K&N Apollo, PX Viper, BMC CDA.

I think the only enclosed one I can get for my engine is the DBilas one! And that still takes up quite a bit of room and is a bit on the expensive side.

There was a thread running on 22 about this mate, some were just venting under the car, (not the best), could you not attach it under the Airbox on the inner wing? A K&N Apollo will deffo give you more room, Marks mod looks the nuts also. Just get an universal one and then get the reducers.

As Rushy said mate mine was just a universal one that I fitted and there is plenty of room left.

Don't pay any attention to the black tape as it's just temporary until I decide how I'm going to fix it proper and I've now got the adapter, but I'll need some Samco hosing to finish it off

I can't see how I am going to be able to bend the pipework enough with that filter to get to the TB on the front of the engine instead of the back like Mark's. (Looks sweet though Mark ).

As for the venting, isn't it an MOT failure to have it venting to the atmosphere and not recirculated to the inlet. And with a N/A car, if you have a breather on the tank, you risk getting oil vapour through the venting into the car.

Hence why I was wondering how long the pipework can be, as I was thinking of mounting one around here:

I mounted mine on the edge of the battery tray, this gives it a natural fall from the rocker cover.

I've just been to look and you can mount it on the chassis leg, under the airbox next to the alternator.
