Default CDTi 8v or CDTi 16v

    Hey peeps

still looking for that perfect motor,

just thought i would ask you guys regarding the CDTi and CDTi thing

I've found a few nice motors that are listed as being 16v, but looking at the boot in the photos teh badge is only silver and when i check out the data check on RAC website they are listed as 8v. Is it very common for them to be listed incorrectly?

Also, as the 8v are generally £500 - £1000 cheaper than the 16v, would anybody recommend the 8v with a tuning box over a 16v?

Thanks for the advice guys, I've got 3 weeks until I start my new job and then its Vectra Time!!

No contest for me mate. If you want 150bhp performance go for the 16v.

Reading these forums, I don't seem to remember ever seeing the 120 being lauded over the 150 in any respect. Except maybe price. IIRC fitting a tunng box to a 120 brings the BHP up to around 150 but the torque is still way down on the 150 version as standard.

If company car tax was to be taken into account, without a doubt i would go for the 120. If its being done so its a private car, then the 150 is probably the one to go for. Speaking with Rob woodhouse the other weekend who has a 120, the fuel consumption is about the same as my 150, so no real gain there. Aparantly the insurance group is the same too, so no huge savings there either.

But, like you say, they are around £1K cheaper and for the sake of £200max you can have a 120 putting out 160bhp which is more than a standard 150. Depending on whether you want a real tarmac eater or not, decides whether 165bhp is enough for you. If you want a real trubo rush, youve got your astra Coupe turbo for that.

So, in my opinion, i'd go for a 120 sri, and spend the £1000 on a tuning box and some 18's or cheap 19's and youd be in a better position than the standard 150 you could have bought.
