Default Oil Question - 2nd year service

    Hi

I took my 1.9CTI 150 into the local dealer for its 2nd years service. Cars done 21k.

I notice they have changed the oil and put in 10w40.

When I booked the service the guy said how many miles had the car done - I replied 20k.

From reading threads on here I see that 10w40 should only be used in cars doing less than 10k per year. I suppose thats why they asked me how many miles I did.

Should I be worried thay have used 10w40 - or will it be ok so long as I don't do 20k miles before next service.

I think the dealer I used is quite good otherwise.....

    thanks
    Richard

Variable is 5/30, 10/40 is for 10k servicing, unless VX have scrapped the variable servicing you should have 5/30 in a CDTi.

was it a VX service or a masterfit? if you paid between £140 and £185 it should be a proper service.

The only advice I can offer is if you are a cabby they may well have put it in to force you to return for another 10k service when that arrives, or maybe you have to ask for 5/30 at extra cost, I had a 2.0 DTi on 10/40 and that was £145 iirc.

But that engine should really have 5/30 in it to preserve the DPF and because it's a high performance engine.

    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Does it have a DPF????

Anyway, i would be returning to the place and asking serious questions why they put the 'wrong' oil in, if you are on EcoFlex service (ie press the mileage trip button when the keys are out and it displays a mileage to next service). It is a calculated service interval dependant on many factors like duty cycle, cold starts etc. And for diesels can go as high as 30K between oil drains. Not sure if VX dropped that number for your model year though. It should be in your handbook for reference.

I'm not on the eco-flex service - its on a yearly or 20k whichever comes first.

Nothing hapens when I press the mileage trip button as you suggest.

Yes, then you're not on ecoflex. What does the book say about oil viscosity for 20K/annual?

They (VXL) put 5/30 in mine without asking me if I wanted to change to a different grade. I rang them & complained & they gave it a flush & put in 5/30 free of charge. Also did the brake fluid, which they "forgot" to do!
