Bio Diesel

As we are all aware the fuel costs are getting beyond silly.

I've found a place that does fully guaranteed Bio Diesel.

it's 85p/litre. That is a significant saving.

Has anyone tried it in a CDTi yet?

I've heard some people/engines have had issues with it.

any feedback would be appreciated.

dont bother mate as it isnt made for the pump on your car it will ****** it sideways ..if ya car is a old biffer that is 20 years old it is great stuff but not on a high presh system ....

I kinda figured that....Merc CDi and Ford TDCi engines HATE the stuff...thanx for confiming.

Cabby and Nutron inadvertantly filled with bio diesel in Belgium earlier in the year, it played merry hell with their cars, Cabby struggled to get up the hill out of Dover it was that bad.

Avoid putting bio diesel in anything in my opinion, unless the fuel system has been specifically modified for it.

Nah,

Low pressure distributor type pump fuel systems are generally Ok with bio - even up to 100%.

High pressure common rail are generally NOT ok with bio.

AFAIK all diesel sold in this country has a small percentage of bio-diesel in it, something like 2%.

Normal usage of a few percent won't make any noticable difference (France is currently 5% IIRC), BUt when the concentration of bio increases, that's when more issues will arise from wear out of fuel components and corrosion etc.
We will definitely see more bio in future years, B20 (ie 20% veggie, 80% mineral diesel) is on the cards to be available.

I don't know if it's me but in recent years the fields round my way have definitely been consisting of this crop in particular.

I agree that we will be seeing higher percentages of bio to normal diesel.

I know currently the percentage is quite low, how high can it go before engines like the CDTI's complain enough?

It can be made from a variety of sources, from rapeseed oil, to inedible nuts to recycling certain materials.

EU spec for Number 2 Diesel (ie road diesel) is EN590 - this spec allows up to 5% bio if it meets the bio fuel spec of EN14214
