    Default Just curious...

Got in the Vec yesterday and noticed a warning light appear on the dash, '******' I thought, thats going to be expensive, but then I noticed it was telling me that there was a bulb out somewhere.

Checked, and sure enough the rear brake light was off.

This made me curious - how does this system work? I assume it can detect any of the bulbs blowing, but how!

    Just my curious nature....

The trip computer includes messages for blown bulbs, low coolant, low oil, brake light fuse and one or two other things which I can't remember. These 'control checks' are carried out each time you start the engine, provided you have the trip computer. There is also a warning light in the rev counter. The message on the display even tells you which bulb has gone!

I think it measures the resistance of the electrical cicuits mate. Blown buld = infinite resistance, servicable bulb = resistance of a set figure...

    Curiosity satisfied!

So each bulb has a resistance value and when it blows, this changes and the system detects it.

Quite clever and usefull really - first car I've I have had with this
