    Default engine swap

    hi everyone

i was at my local scrappy yesterday and saw a totalled vectra with the 2.0 turbo lump in it now its playing on my mind to loose the 1.8 and fill the gap with the 2.0t lump i know it would be easier to change the car but i love it to pieces it just needs more under the right foot

could i have anyones opinion please

    Simon

if you want to do it then defintely buy the whole Turbo car as you can change and have everything you need to hand in one go from wiring loom to silly little things you wouldnt think about

Good transplant and would agree with Gregg if you are going to do it. How much do they want for the car tho as it could be cheaper to sell yours and buy a 2.0L T

Probable cheaper on insurance too. Sticking the 2.0 Turbo in a 1.8 will attract a hefty premium !

Would probably need to upgrade brakes as well, does not seem viable.

im under the understanding that engine swops in vec c's aint as easy as in the older cars ..like for like is still ok but smaller for bigger aint ....

here is a basic out line ...the engine ecu may not talk to your uec so you will need to change that then it may not chat with you bcm then that wont chat to ya cim then that wont be compatable with you air bag system ...and so on and so on and it all needs tech two and both cars imobo sysstems cleaning cheaper and easyer to buy a 2.0t i think mate

Total waste of money Simon, when you do engine transplants it only really works if say you put an engine in that the car never had, like say squeezing a Monaro engine in the Vec if that would ever fit anyway, and then you enter the world of electronics and suspension/brakes etc, I can understand why you would want to do it, but the reality is if you want a fast car go buy one.

Benny has just said what I was thinking, the can bus system will be a nightmare to get round. Buy a Turbo, it would be much easier.

Any thing is possible, the data link would be programmable, but wouldn't be cheap.

If you really want to do it, then get the whole if poss.

Personally, I'd say sell yours and buy a T car.

I've transplanted, and replaced engines before and getting the hardware in is the easy bit. The engine will clearly fit your bay with hardly any work, even the engine mounts will all line up, but it's all the fiddly bits that take the time and patience.

Is the cooling pack up to it, I don't know if coolant heat rejection for the T would be compatible with the 1.8 cooling system.

Lots of things to think about.

I wouldn't do it if I'm honest, i'd go buy the turbo'd version.
