Default Help, Heard a bang on startup, now overheating!

Well i stopped the car today to get something out of the boot, when i started it up i heard a band and shortly after the car temp gauge started to sore.....

i immediatly stopped and called out the RAC (at 2am!) i dint realise that the RAC dont cone out after 11pm they just send a tow truck!.

So now the car is back homp and i can hear a hissing down the left side of the engine bay, got a torch and shon it down......NOT GOOD.... i can see a pully lying on against the bodywork detatched from the engine :-(

I can get my fingers to it y a gap just behind the drivers side fog light..... and its defo detatched i can wiggle it... it looks like the bottom most pully.

Thing i want to know is, whats this likely to cost to put right, does anybody have a pic of the side of the engine i could have a look at, Alos are there EPG`s available for this car yet?

Its a 04 Plate Signum 2.2 DTI Design

Thanks for any help, at the mo i`m seriously ****ting myself, asuming i`m looking at a huge bill the warenty company will find some way of wriggling out of...

I apreciate any help you guys can offer.

I think there is a known problem with the front pulley on the 2.2DTI - search for threads by Bigman as I seem to remember that he and GSI3.2 had to do some work on his.

Replacement pulleys are available, but bit of a sod to fit as you need a windy gun with a torque increaser thingy to fully tighten it from memory.

I'm sure Mark (GSI3.2) will be along a bit later to help.

    he's here....

the problem will be that the bottom pulley will have delaminated ( it's a two part design) and the outer part that drives the waterpump and others will have come off the inner..

the only cure is a replacement bottom pulley.. they are avaliable from VX only. And my one word of advice.. give it to a garage to do as the botom bolt is VERY tight...you will not undo it at home..

it's normal that the engine survives it's breif overheating..

as you have a warranty then there's little to worry about..it's a quite common DTi engine fault and there are now 'upgraded' parts to stop it ever happening again..the warranty firm should just foot the £300 bill (£220 for the part +fitting)

    Thanks, i did a search last night, 2750lbs of torque :-o ....

i have a freindly garage down here (Greenmeadow) where 2 of the recovery drivers are members of a local car site i`m a member of (www.tcc-cc.uk) and it just happened to be one of those memers who came out to recover me!!..

Turns out BOTH the site members are working today, they have already been round with the flatbed and collected the car.

    You guys are excellent!

I Had the same problem on my 2.0 dti last year, went to vauxhall and they were on back order at the time, it was about £112 + vat for mine. Didn't want to wait 10 days for it so i went to www.vauxcentre.co.uk and they had them on the shelf £102 + vat,had next day delivery from them.
Your one is £65 + vat and part no is 55351711,on the shelf.

Just double check the part no's for the 2.0 and 2.2 DTi's are interchangeable. No reason to suspect they're not, but you never know!
