My current Vec 1.8 Petrol is nearing the end of it's useful life with me. It's 4 years old and has done 85K of trouble free motoring and has been a stable workhorse. I got it at exactly one year old with 13K on it, and I want to change in about 10K - that's about 3 months time !
I am beginning to start the quest for a new car to last me the next 3 years.
I am looking for a car of similar size and comfort, stability on motorways, reliable, FUEL ECONOMY and a purchase price of around 9 - 10K ish at about a year old.
I want to buy a year old car so some one else pays for the big depreciation, but I still have a useable m/f warranty left.
My daily drive to work is about 70 miles, mostly on motorway, so driveability on M-ways is important - coupled with fuel economy and reliability.
I don't race around, so don't want / need stiff suspension etc. Comfortable for long distance m-way is the key, not really bothered about sporty and thundering into corners and growl. I want to get out the car at the other end and feel as good as I do now in my Vec.
I'm not that interested in toys in the car but obviously want Air con, cruise control, ABS etc. Don't need trip computers or electric seats etc - they just are not needed by me.
So........
An ideas on car and model, remembering that total cost of ownership is the real key. No point having 60mpg if it's going to cost me 10k in depreciation over 3 years, and conversely no point in costing 7K if it only does 20mpg.
Clearly I have some time to decide, but I do like to make sure I have made the right decision, as I will have to live with it for 3 years approx.
I do like the Vec, but not sure if there is something better out there.
Cheers.
