    Vehicle : Jaguar XF 3.0D V6

    Trim : Black

    Engine : 3.0D V6

    Year : 0000

    Default Options for consideration please

My current Vec 1.8 Petrol is nearing the end of it's useful life with me. It's 4 years old and has done 85K of trouble free motoring and has been a stable workhorse. I got it at exactly one year old with 13K on it, and I want to change in about 10K - that's about 3 months time !

I am beginning to start the quest for a new car to last me the next 3 years.

I am looking for a car of similar size and comfort, stability on motorways, reliable, FUEL ECONOMY and a purchase price of around 9 - 10K ish at about a year old.
I want to buy a year old car so some one else pays for the big depreciation, but I still have a useable m/f warranty left.

My daily drive to work is about 70 miles, mostly on motorway, so driveability on M-ways is important - coupled with fuel economy and reliability.
I don't race around, so don't want / need stiff suspension etc. Comfortable for long distance m-way is the key, not really bothered about sporty and thundering into corners and growl. I want to get out the car at the other end and feel as good as I do now in my Vec.

I'm not that interested in toys in the car but obviously want Air con, cruise control, ABS etc. Don't need trip computers or electric seats etc - they just are not needed by me.

    So........

An ideas on car and model, remembering that total cost of ownership is the real key. No point having 60mpg if it's going to cost me 10k in depreciation over 3 years, and conversely no point in costing 7K if it only does 20mpg.

Clearly I have some time to decide, but I do like to make sure I have made the right decision, as I will have to live with it for 3 years approx.

I do like the Vec, but not sure if there is something better out there.

    Cheers.

personally, as you know the current vectra has been good to you, i'd say you'd do well to look at the 1.8VVTi in SRi spec... loads about so prices are reasonable.. if you want to get one for £7K there's a light front ended non recorded one on ebay..

the economy is good, the engine is proven and the rest is know to us all....

if it ain't broke, why change manufacturers..

There could be mileage in staying with a Vec, but I want to make sure I've made the right choice - as I got to live with it.

    Sorry, for the long post....

If you don't stay with a Vectra, go Japanese. Toyota Avensis or Honda Accord. A million taxi drivers can't be wrong

After my pup of a 2.2 DTi, I kept the faith and am really pleased with my Siggy.

Thought about a Sig, late model, might just fall into your range and is a little different from the Vec to stop you being bored by it.

But no sports suspension like the SRI, and 'structure' (alloy-lookalike) 16" wheels, but if you don't need alloys or sports suspension.......

I agree with going Japanese as an alternative, but as Mark says, they're more costly but hold their value better.

What about a Skoda Octavia? Came top in class in the J D Power Survey 2008.

What size car are you looking for? Petrol or diesel? Is image an important factor?
