    Default 14ft Away

Technology is moving at an awesome speed and is making me lazy.

Here I am sat browsing vectra-c.com and listening to Marie Digby (on the same machine), noting that only 1 person so far has replied to a post I made about this artist (not bitter ), when I notice that the TV at the other end of the room is showing a film I think I may have seen.

Now rather than go to the TV and press information on the remote (which in itself is an amazing advancement in the last few years) I simply look up the tv schedule on the laptop - which reveals it is a movie I have seen and YES a movie I forgot for a reason, its rubbish.

This is also the same machine I can use to order food, talk to the missus even though she is at work miles away, look at all the pictures I have taken in the last 10 years.

I can also watch a movie, research my family history, the history of any recorded event and find the answers to almost every question I have.

I think this post has been inspired by the 1986 thread, but WOW...I didnt see this advance in technology coming.

It humbles me sometimes when I think of how far and how quickly we have come due to the brilliance of others.

all too often we take it for granted. In my world, I tun on my computer and use it. I don't even know what bits are inside it, let alone even imagine how they work. Same for the TV, washing mahcine, car stereo...

On the flip side though, everyone (well, most people) have something to offer. I can fix people who have had massive heart attacks, or stopped breathing, or safely stabilise a broken spine. But put me out in the garden, and my ability stops at mowing the lawn. My mum faints at the sight of blood, but can name off the top of her head about 3 squillion different plants and flowers growing in her garden, when they grow, what they look like and how to care for them.

Mark GSi can probably disassemble an entire engine in half a day and put it back together better than it was before he started. But maybe he can't cook. Everyone's different, but I think the important thing is to appreciate just how insignificant one person is in the grand scheme of things.

What's fun is ordering a pizza online for someone at the other end of the country and having them be really suprised when it turns up on their doorstep...

lol I've heard the rumours, it wasn't an entirely unfounded comment

Apologies for the typos though - it was the same keyboard I'd just tipped coffee over and I think it may be destined for the great scrapyard in the sky
