    Default Cam belt?

My car's recently rolled past 63000 miles and seems to be fine (touch wood). Now, last time it was serviced (January - main dealer), I enquired when the cam belt needed changing. The clueless dolly behind the counter said 80k, but I keep hearing people saying it's best to change at 40k, 60k etc. What is the best time? And what sort of cost would I be looking at (1.9cdti 150)?

On another note, what tyres should I be looking at as my fronts are becoming borderline legal? I'm not after a specific brand or type - plenty of those threads on here!! - and I know I need 225/45/17 but more the specific type e.g. speed and load ratings. Any help greatly appreciated.

40k is best for the cam belt to be safe, IIRC the rollers or tensioners can dry out and fail is you leave it to 80k.

With the tyres, i'd just fit the same rating and size that's already on

I would keep the tyres the same, but the car's running on the 215/50/17s at the moment and there are very few choices for that size.

Vehicle : Insignia CDTi SRi NAV 160

    Trim : SRi

    Engine : A20DTH

    Year : 2009

    Mileage : 88000

100k is the service interval for the cambelt on your car which is the same as mine. A word of warning tho as my cambelt tensioner went at 61k and took the engine out. New engine under warranty tho . I think I would get it done at 60k

And change your tyres for 225/45 - cheaper and much wider range

i can only echo the early cambelt change recommendation... why put off spending out £200 on a belt change when it can cause £000's in damage..

and tyres... swap to 225/45 and you can save up to £50 a tyre..

i used to buy 215's for £125.. now i have 225/40/18 for under £90 a corner (continental's which are terrible.. don't buy them)..

I have just had a tensioner seize after 18k miles, fortunately no harm done.

Looks like it might be an expensive month then!!

Firstly, how much am I looking at for a cambelt and water pump replacement?

Secondly, I've seen Goodyear F1 asymmetrics for £83 each from either Camskill or mytyres. Anyone had any dealings with them? And are they a good tyre?

    So many questions!!?!??!

Parts for cambelt etc come to around £200, then labour on top of that.

F1's are superb tyres. Quiet and stick to the road like turds to a blanket
