Default Thorney Motorsport Here I Come

The time has almost arrived {9hrs and 15mins to go} till thorney work their magic with the re map, the owner has said he got the same engine in an astra up to 240bhp from 175, not bad hey, this will be the first vec c 20t they have done as the re map programme isnt complete yet for them yet so they will be using mine as a tester to see what differences there are between the astra 20t and the vec c 20t hopefully not much, ive also tryed to get him to lower it and fit a milltek or supersprint exhaust system too dont want much do i he said he would up grade the map if i got an exhaust at a later date for free,so happy days...........will keep you posted

The Astra engine is a Z20LET and the Vectra 2.0T is a Z20NET, the difference being that the Vectra has a lower-pressure turbo and a higher compression ratio than the Astra.

BSR tune the Astra 2.0T to 240bhp from either 170bhp or 200bhp, as you state Thorneysport have done.

So if BSR can only up the bhp in the Vectra 2.0T to 204/215 bhp (official figures) then it will indeed be interesting to know how Thorneysport will be able to get more from a 'Stage 1-type' remap.

I assume you are getting a special rate for being used as a 'guinea pig'

Good Luck. As John said the Astra engine in the sporthatch is a detuned Z20LET (same as my Astra G Coupe Turbo). The same engine is in the Astra H estate, but at the usual 200bhp. Getting 240bhp from a remap on the LET is fairly common place. I really hope you get the 240 youve been promised, but please dont be dissapointed if its nearer 220.

As others have said, they're not the same engine though! Are Thorney aware of that?I hope you get good results, but I'm wondering if they realise the 2.0T in the Vec/Signum is a different engine and not the same to tune.

Well i have just got back from Thorney afyter spending the morning up there with John, and have to say i am well impressed with the whole set up..

Now people will no doubt say all companies are like that, First impressions and all that..

Well, John Thorney, the man himself spend an hour jst standing chatting me John and myself, we were asking him all sorts of questions and he was answering frankly and honestly, when he could quite easily have lied and we would have been none the wiser..

The lengths they go to for a re-map are pretty impressive, its a whole day affair, and they supply you with a courtesy car to do what you like with while they have your car. A proper waiting room with TV's, Internet access, vending machnes etc etc..

And more to the point, he can map my 2.2DTI!!!
After along chat about it, he will map it, and give me a 3 year no quibbles warranty, the standard price is £550, but there will be some sort of discount on that. All up i was very impresed with the whole operation, and am going to have no hesitation in getting my car mapped there.

It will be a few weeks, but watch this space.

And Duncan, he is wel aware of the difference in Engines between the Astra and Vectra.
He openly admits the Vectra was/is a market he has not looked into a great deal, and will in the near future be looking into it. I did advise him to join this forum and have a look round so he can see just how enthusiastic people are about modifying their vectra's..

I would certainly reccomend anyone who is having any work done on their car;s to go and see him, even if its only for a chat, as he is more than happy to spend an hour going thru things with you even if he doesnt get the business!!

And most importantly, He is a petrolhead at heart(his words)!!
