    Smile Any idea

I noticed a sort of senor on the front of my interior, whist it has indirect night lighting, there is a sensor on the back [mirror side] for the auto dimming, but has any one any idea what the sensor on the front facing the windscreen is for.
    Cheers
    Ed.

As Ian said, it's relating to the Climate Control. It detects whcih direction the sun is coming from and compensates the CC for that side. You'll see it referred to as Dual Zone Sun Sensor in any specs/manuals.

"oh" so that is what it is then, I thought the cc sensor was the domed one on the top of the dash board on the screen air vent?, what is that one for then.

Ah, we've both misread your post! I thought you were asking what the one on the dash near the screen is (that's what my answer was relating to). You're asking what the sensor on the side of the rear-view mirror that faces the screen is for?

That is linked to the auto-dimming mirror. That sensor measures the ambient light to decide if/how much to dim the mirror when the sensor on the mirror part gets light on it. Basically it will dim depending on the difference between the readings of the two sensors. If it's broad daylight and someone is behind you with high beams, it won't dim much (if at all) whilst, obviously, as night it will dim if someone is behind you with high beams.

I believe the same sensor is also linked into the Indirect Night Lighting so that it isn't on during the day when it isn't of any benefit.

Cheers, that all makes sense, a bit like the light meter in a camera.
