Default Career Change's !! What have others Done ?

I have now been in my longest Career ever, Nigh on 12 Years in I.T.
The 5 Months of this year & 2007 have really started to get me down, I just don't enjoy my Job anymore.
Previous Jobs include Many years as a Hgv Mechanic, Country Park estate's maintenance (Peak national Park), Construction, Engineering.
    So quite a broad spectrum.

Trouble is, We (people) are the makers of our own sorrow,
We want a House, We want a car, We want wide screen Tv's, Holidays Etc Etc.
All these have to be paid for & before you know it, You are actually tied to a particular role which comes with a certain pay band. But i want to get back to doing something more fulfilling, It's amazing how, problem, Problem Problem solving all day everyday gets on top of you & you don't realy actually see any end result.

I work in Leek, Staffs, SO not the highest paid area for I.T, Compared to Manchester, Birmingham Etc.

What have others done ? Who have been in similar situations ??
I believe sanity is worth a great deal

    Cheers

    Dean

One of my best friends is from portugal, and he always humbles me with his ethic ... Material items mean nothing to him, as long as his family are healthy and happy so is he. We are in a culture where you have to have nice things for people to look up to you, nice car , nice house and you bust your pan in to pay for it, and live to your means .. I often wonder why we bother !! You can`t buy happiness .

Look at what Harry is doing at the moment, following his dream by the looks of it. One day I hope to do the same, earn a living for myself doing something I enjoy. Good on Harry.

Sorry to hear that Dean, my answer to this, is to look for something that will make you happy...

I have the belief, that happiness is more important than money; I know we need money to live but feeling good in yourself is so much more important...

I had to change career path, due to developing eplisey when I was 26...I saved to go back to University to study Law; which gave me the chance to try something new and that my illness would not hold me back...

Have you thought about going back to night college, to give you something to aim for and make your full time job more interesting...

Good luck Dean, life is to short and hopefully you will find something that you will get your teeth into

I agree with the above statment, a lot of people think happiness is from having statues; but what they forget it is within yourself

I rather have love, any day to money! I love that warm feeling it gives you, it makes you feel complete inside...! The best feeling in the world and I would not swap that for anything"

I became a cabby when it dawned on me I was wasting my time working for others, back in the 80's when I first started doing it it was a real gas, lots of really great ppl to work with at the office, I was actually loving it more to go to work on a Sat night than go to the pub with my mates, I was getting the going out experience and earning from it as well, added to that I used so get to drive around in my mates 2.8 Granada mk2 without a care about the fuel used up, then came the 90's and it all started to get a bit Telegraph Road and towards the end of the 90's ppl had completely changed for the worst, so right now I'm in your boat pondering where to go next.

Been in IT myself for about the same amount of time, still enjoy it luckily. Having said that I'd rather sell the house and buy a cheap one and go on more holidays every year (maybe work for myself in IT), but the wife likes the house too much and worries about what sort of house we'd get with just the profit on this house..

Have you considered the dole?? the way it's going they're getting better off than us workers..

I have considered re-training/educating, Trouble is, I currently spend so much Blinkin Time working

I will certainley have to sort myself out ....

As Vauxveteran say's, ALot of it, (Un-happiness) is to do with the type of people that we now have to deal with !!!

I am currently thinking about selling my house, I just need to fit 1 more carpet & it's ready.. This lead me to thinking about a really cheap house, to enable me to follow any career path, But then the people thing pop's up again ! Now i know this does not apply to all Area's/People but the cheaper the houses/Area's, The less neighbourly the inhabitants !!!

And as NellyD also say's. You really have to lay your own Path's & Love, Health & Happiness does not wear a price Tag for a reason, As it cannot be marked in Money ..

Buy a tent, or a river boat, you can always move 'house' easily then if the neighbours aren't good..
