    Default AC compressor

I have a slight whirring noise from my AC compressor (I think). I can only hear it when I'm stationry and I rev it slightly, I can't hear any noise when I'm on the move or on tick over. And the noise goes away when I disable the AC. Has anyone else noticed this? thanks Dave

Needs re-gassed. The gas acts as a lubricate so if its low you can get a slight noise.

If the gas pressure is too low, the AC won't engage though. Does the AC actually work like a fridge?

I can hear the compressor kick in, and the air gets a lot colder. I'm not sure if its as cold as it should be?

What John says is quite correct, there is a lubricant in with the gas. BUT if it's working well it suggests there is enough gas in it.

Does the noise disappear after a while, or does it continue ad infinitum?

The noise stays the same all the time ad infinitum. When you suggested WD40 Ste, I went out and sprayed a bit on the compressor, and it did seem to get less noisy.
