    Default Marathon

Has anyone here ever run one?

I'm contemplating the idea of running a marathon at some point for charity and I'm just wondering if anyone has.

I'm a relatively fit young lad, would need to change a few things to get to 'marathon fitness' but I'm willing to learn, just if anyone has the sort of trainig they went through, actual effort and satisfaction, etc, etc.

    Default Running

    Hi,
I'm not a marathon runner but have completed lots of halfs (13.1 miles) Also have done a duathlon (bike and run ) this year.

I would suggest that if you have not run any sort of race to b4 to work up to a marathon as it is quite a shock to the body.

My best advice would be to sign up to 10k race and train for that and then sign up for a half or two and get them under your belt.

You have the key ingredient to do this - enthusiasm - so book an event and get some training in.

Personally, I train up to about 8 miles for a half marathon and run 3-4 times a week. Key thing is to get a date in the diary and work towards it

    Hope that helps?

Yep, it helps mate! Any advice is appreciated.

I've found a website that has a 16 week training schedule for a 'newbie' like myself leading up to a marathon. I've got 15 weeks, so I'm going to start off on that and we'll see where it goes.

I'm actually quite excited by this prospect! Might even get myself registered for a charity.

Hi, Mrs D is doing a run for charity at the end of June, Lou has done a lot of training; maybe it would be good to send her a message...

I am no runner, my ex of 9 years; did the London Marathon for 3 years running.. He did loads of training, running, swimming, cycling and eating the right foods, I am not a runner myself, more into mountain biking...

Good luck and I know charties are always looking for people to run on their behalf

Yep, defo do a 10k first, then 1/2`s, I have never done a marathon, but have done 10k`s and a 1/2 ... I got a pedometer and went out every night and wrote my distance/time on a calander and aimed to get a bit further / quicker every week ... Also i did the distance a couple of times before the event ...

The brother in law(ste) is a fantastic runner and has attempted the London Marathon twice and sucummed to severe cramps the first time and this year got the wild ones the day before and couldnt run.

Your diet is a massive part of your training, ste has a bad diet where he eats lots of food with sugar and always hits the wall!

He runs 80miles a week and looks like John Wayne afterwards!!!

    Hi

I've run eight of the bleedin things and every time said never again!

    Have a look at

    fetch.com

    or

    runners world

    or

fairlands valley spartans running club = may not be local , but it has lots of really good information and links to running clubs all over the uk.

Joining a club is a good way of keeping yourself going

Must important of all though..............................DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER skimp on running shoes......have em fitted properly as otherwise they can ruin the entire experiance (would be the same as fitting cheap s rated tyres to a 2.8 V6)

    and most of all..............HAVE FUN!!!!
