Have been reading through some of the threads in this section trying to find out a bit about a problem I'm having, but to no avail. Maybe you guys can help?
04 Veccy 2.0dti running very rough most of the time. Lumpy when started for a few seconds with a nice puff of grey smoke. Fuel economy dropped quite suddenly.
A bit of background:
Fuel economy was grand, ~43-45 MPG regularly, but hard to start in the mornings for a few weeks, then car stopped one day and wouldn't start again. Filled tank with good fuel, bled it, changed glow plugs, replaced air filter and all usual service items. (Car has only recently (around 4 months) been given oil and filter change using VX FS Oil and VX Filter, also Slick 50 Engine Protector). Left it into garage (not the one i bought from) asked him to change injector seals and leak off pipes. Was advised the leak off pipes had already been done prior to me getting the car as he could see they were better than standard VX ones which are problematic. He run diagnostics on the car before doing the seals as he said could be overkill.
Anyways basically he said a couple of the sensors were not running in alignment or something to that effect and he reset them etc. Car at very least is now working again and although still bit lumpy in the mornings, it's going, which was my main concern as I need it for work.
Can anyone tell me what would cause the negine to sound so noisy though? It sounds like it does when the turbo disappears when the car goes into limp mode and it's relying on straightforward deisel grunt. The turbo is working because it kicks in from about 1500 revs and it actually quietens the engine a little. The noisiness is more when you are just cruising not using the turbo to accelerate etc.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
