Default Buying a Vectra - I NEED HELP

Im currently looking at buying a good, second hand Vectra preferbly an 07 plate with less than 20'000 miles. The only car ive ever owned is a Ford Focus C-Max (06) 1.8 CDTi which was excellent in my opinion, I loved the pull on it and speed, so yes im pretty much an inexperienced buyer/driver thats why ive come on here for help. I want a Vectra no doubt and currently have my eyes on the 1.9 CDTi Sri (150 bhp), 1.9CDTi Elite, 2.2i Direct Sri, 2.2i Direct Elite.

Which is the best out of the 4 in your opinion and why?

Ive heared good reviews on the 1.9 CDTi. What noticable difference is there between the 1.9CDTi Sri and the Elite version? Is the CDTi good, as in power/pull factor? If its anything like the CMax 1.8CDTi id be happy. What about the petrol 2.2i Direct Elite/Sri?

Generally what is better the diesel or petrol vectra's and why? Which has more power, better drive etc...

I really cant make my mind up. Good, honest advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Diesel
more expensive to buy, better to sell, cheaper to run. sounds like a bag of spanners. reliability questions. Tuneable. slightly quicker in everyday driving.

    Petrol
cheaper to buy, cheaper to sell, more expensive to run. high reliability. not tuneable without serious cash.

Well I'd say the 1.9 150 Elite is the best of the bunch. As i have a 1.9 150 and love the power and fuel economy. On a motorway run you should see 48/50mpg around town 38/40 mpg. It's very easily tuned as well. Caterman box 65 quid or a BSR 550 quid.
The Elite will have all the toys, Far far more than a sri.
Some people have had some issue's with the 1.9 but if you get a 07 all will be covered under warranty.
I hope you find what you want.

Thanks, looks like my minds made up on a diesel. The elite seems to be 1 step ahead of the Sri except for those dreadful alloys, but suppose they can be replaced with a Sri type alloy.

Buy the 1.9 cdti elite and then mod it with the sri alloys and bumpers and you'll be a happy bunny.........

I think the elite does have more toys, but I prefer the SRi. I like the sports seats for a start, and of course it has lowered/uprated suspension.best to test drive the petrol & diesel and see what you think, the 1.9 will feel quicker, but it will be around £1500 more expensive than the petrol..

Have you thought about a Signum? Just that bit different from the tons of Veccy's around although I admit the shape's a bit of a Marmite moment, you either love it or ........

Big plus is that the depreciation is even worse than a Veccy so some cracking 07 bargains to be had. If you are tempted to go for a Siggy though don't be fooled by the VX blurb that the instrument of torture in the back turns it into an 'occasional' 5 seater, it is strictly for v.v. short trips only.

Get yourself plenty of test drives and have fun choosing

Have a look at Motorpoint and TSL Slough, I think you'll find what you are looking for, the CDTi in auto pulls off the line better btw.

I have the elite CDTI 150, my old man has the SRi - as mentioned above the seats and the suspension on the SRi are so much better. My elite has all the toys plus some factory extras. I don't drive fast so can put up with the suspension and the seats.
