    Eek k&N filter 3.2 gsi

Hi folks im wanting to get a K&N filter for my vectra gsi 3.2.
They are alot more exspensive than some of the other litre cars, anyone be able to tell me why i cant just put one of these on. Im pressuming its the size of the intake pipe but surely an addapter would be cheaper any help most appreciated.

They are huuuge. I had a K&N cossie filter in my early Escort days when I ran a Zetec Turbo in an old H reg Escort

264bhp, but that was with some serious mods like a Mondeo 16v engine shoe horned into the space where a 1.6 8v used to live, a cossie blower and an intercooler twice the size of the radiator + lots of other stuff.
Unfortunately it had trouble putting the power down, which was later confirmed when I took the GSi up the strip at PVS where it trounced the Escort, so I leaned that the power was only good for track days and rolling starts.

I don't want to hog the post with pics, but here's another taster

Now you've got me looking into this one for my GSi.

I think this will be my soultion:

Strip out air box but leave all that convuluted ducting from the front of the car to act as "ram" air.

Fit stainless cone filter in the space where the air box was (£30) http://www.turbobits.co.uk/acatalog/air_filters.html

Join cone filter to throttle body using silicone hose connector (say £8) http://www.turbobits.co.uk/acatalog/Couplers.html

Hey presto, less than £40 and a lot less than K&N or Pipercross.
