Default Power problems on my 1.9CDti (120)

    Hi all,

    I've recently bought a 54-plate 1.9CDti (120) Vectra.

I've had the car/spanner light on a couple of times on startup but, to be honest, I assumed it was just flashing all the lights up on startup, as it always went off after a couple of seconds. However, now it doesn't come on at all so I'm wondering if something was (IS??) wrong!

This is coupled with the fact that, between around 1800-2300 revs, on 1/4 to 1/3 throttle, the car "judders", as if it's losing power. This is much worse if the engine's under extra load (e.g. up a hill). If i put my foot hard down there's no problem.

One option is to just drive it fast everywhere, but I'd rather sort it out! I've tried injector cleaner in the tank (well, you never know...) but no difference.

Is this the EGR valve problem I've read so much about on here?

Any pointers greatly appreciated; don't particularly fancy having to hand over a load of cash to a kid with a laptop if I can look at it myself.

    Cheers,

    Ben K.

wrt the car/spanner light: if it was only on at ignition switch on, and went out after start-up; that would indicate a previous fault logged, but no longer present and it is normal for it to dissappear after a few restarts. (The fault could have happened before you got the car, was no longer present (you just get the light) and now it has successfully restarted a number of times so doesn't warn you anymore).

Not sure about your other issue.

I had the EXACT same problem on mt 54-plate SRI CDTI 120, but after about 40 fresh starts, the light vanished, and still had it tech2 tested but it store dno trouble codes. I would still get it checked ASAP if I were you, at least you know what caused? I was told by the dealer, dont worry about it if it only comes on on ignition, it just means a code sotred, if it were more sever, it would stay on....but it is still wise to check it.

Hmmm, so it sounds like the spanner light is probably nothing to worry about then?

In that case, I'm even more curious as to the cause of my apparent fueling problem - odd that it doesn't bring up the ECU light??

What do you mean by fueling problem? Do you mean that it doesnt pull....i would still have a Tech2 done on it!

My CDTi 150 had the same sort of problem last week, between 1600rpm and 2000rpm it was juddering, beyond 2000 rpm drove fine.

Was in the dealers yesterday and they replaced the injector wiring loom which is becoming a common problem on these engines

    Morning all,

re-read my initial description of the problem, and I'm not sure I've described it too accurately...

Basically, the car loses power for half a second or so, regains it, then loses it, then regains it again. This occurs as it rises through the rev range from 1800-2300 (approx) on part-throttle.

Feels very much like a fuelling issue (definitely not clutch-related as far as I can make out).

If it was petrol I'd be checking the plugs etc but, as I've cleaned the injectors I'm stumped!

Looks like Tech2 is the way to go then... Anyone got an idea of what I should expect to pay for the diagnostic? How about if they replace the injector wiring loom?

    Thanks for the help.

Well, the mystery might be solved...

    Turbo exploded last week.

There was a "pop" and a smell of burning, followed by loud whistling when the engine was revved. This didn't last too long as, about 1/4 mile later, there was a loud "bang" and now it sounds like a handful of bolts in a tumble dryer.

Been told by the garage that the turbo's well shot - quoted £600 for a new one and £600 labour to fit and fish the bits of the old one out of the rest of the motor.

    Does this sound about right??
