It's a very old article as well, the Insignia is unlikely to see this engine based on what I read about it's state of development.

I would hate to be the first to try this engine would scare me to death. The Direct injection petrol promised diesel economy and turned out to be a lemon.

Do you know if the 2.0 cdti is a different unit than the 1.9cdti or have they just bored it out.

I understood the new 2.0 diesels are based on the 1.9 cdti but bigger, new software and euro5 (however... 1991 cc is exactly the same as the VM-Motori engines from the Antara but they are euro4 and have lower hp with a terrible consumption)

It could be the fuel system and / or the calibration that has changed to get more power and better emissions.

Quote from an article I read (not specifically about this engine, more HCCI in general):
The fundamental ingredients in the recipe are a combustion pressure sensor to tell the computer what happened during the prior stroke, variable valve timing, and gasoline direct injection.

Yes, real time cylinder pressure is a must for HCCI, with diesels it's fairly easy to get a sensor in the cylinder - ie combined glow plug / pressure sensor. Petrols would prob need another tapping in the head.

Nice. Will be interesting to see what the emissions are for these.
