Thumbs down Pure comedy at Vauxhall for my EGR valve

Pure comedy at Vx with my EGR valve
As I still haven’t been able to get one for less than £310 I though I’d ring a Vx stealership (don’t laugh its best to cover all angles)
I’m sure this could be made into a sketch…. And I’d love to go to the planet they live on. The conversation was…..

Hi, can I have the service department
    Hi service department
Can you give me a price for replacing the EGR valve on a 3.0 Signum please.
    Diesel?
    Yes.
    Long pause
£210 but we can’t do it till next week….
    £210? You sure? It’s the 3.0 diesel!
Yup, £210 to replace the EGR valve
Brill, when can I book it in?
Well before you book it in, you need to ring the spares department to get a price for the valve and see if they have one!
    EH?
You need to ring the spares department to see if they have one!
Hang on, I asked for a price to replace the valve, so A valve and Labour
No, that’s only that’s price for replacing it, not getting one and replacing it!
So if I rang for the price of a service you would only give me the labour price?
No we would quote a price for a service
So oil, filters and so on
    Yes?
So when I asked for the price for replacing the EGR valve why wasn’t the valve included…..
Because were service and not spares…..

Right, put me through to spares

    Hello spares?
Can I get the price for an 04 Signum 3.0 diesel EGR valve – auto if it make a difference
No, no difference hang on 2 mins
    £136
    £136 you sure?
Yup £136 for the EGR valve on a Z30DT
    Z? mines a Y30DT
    Is it, hang on
£393 but that’s not including gaskets so over £400 all in
    Are you extracting the urine?
    No
Well whats the part number for the Y30DT and I’ll google it
    98030644 it’s the 3rd and final revision

    Click

I now hate Vauxhall with a passion (obviously this is my opinion and not necessarily shared by other on this forum)

Keeps throwing up the car with spanner or emmission light or both - then most of the time the dreaded limp home mode.
Seems OK in the mornings its only when it gets past 15 miles of warming up.
Sometimes never comes on either..... And its much better after a new software version for the ECU and a full service.

So true There's a lot to be said for using a small VX dealer, like the one I now use, with one desk for sales and another one for everything else, and where everyone talks to each other, and customers wanting after-sales service are not regarded as a nuisance. Some big dealers just take the pi$$.

I'm sorry.. but i still firmly beleive that it just needs cleaning...you don't need to replace the valve just because it's coked up...

After the service and new ECU software version it seems to be getting better (the grunt from 2500 rpm now is very nice!) Its virtually smoke free now too, so I think the clean should do it as you suguest Mark - think i'll try to find a different garage tho, as they really dont seem to be "specialist" enough with the flavour of Vauxhall I have.

I've looked in the recomended dealers/garages bit but theres none near me, so if anyones reading this and knows of a good'un near Huddersfield (HD9) or Manchester (M40) where I work let me know.

    Cheers all!
