    Default Giving Blood

I've been thinking about giving blood quite a lot recently. I think i read somewhere that you can't give blood if you've had a transfusion, which i have.

I was born prematurely and needed a lot of blood, and i only feel it right to give it back. Is anyone here a regular donor or know if i would be able to donate?

sorry Tam, if you've recieved blood since 1980 you cant donate but all credit to you for wanting to

one of my friends had been donating for the last 12 years then had to stop when the new rules came in about tranfusions

Didn't think i could. Does that mean that i'll never be able to, or is it just for a certain length of time?

At the moment, if you have had a transfusion since 1980, then no you can not and there is no length of time before you can.

As corman said, if you've received blood since 1980 then they won't take your blood as in period, not even in the future (unless they change the rules). It's all to do with the fact that they can't test donated blood for CJD.

Good on you for wanting to do it though. My next donation will be my 25th.

I gave regularly from age 18 until last year - you have to wait 6 months after a tattoo or skin piercing , and I can't seem to stop...
